Trusting in God when you don't understand

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

If you have been a Christian long enough you probably know Proverbs 3:5 by now, which says: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

However, as good and encouraging this verse might sound to us. Too often, as Humans beings, it is difficult to trust God specifically in the midst of trials and tribulations. If we look at the news and see what is going on in our world, that alone is enough to lead us to pause and ask God where he is. And why he allows certain things to Happen in the world.

Well, Contrary to what some people might think. Being a Christian does not abstain us from trials and hardships. In John 16:33 Jesus says: “ In this world you will have trouble of all kinds. But take heart! I have overcome the world. In this verse Jesus is implying that we will have troubles in this world but he will be with us through the storm. In other words, he will give us peace that surpasses all understanding.

Trusting in God when you do not understand is also understanding and exercising what Faith is. What is Faith exactly? It is confidence in what we hope, and the assurance that the Lord is working, even though we cannot see it or feel it.

I’m reminded of Hannah’s story in the Bible. Where she dealt with infertility, bullying, and shame for years. Although she was a woman of prayer, she could not see God’s promise come to pass for years. I’m sure in those moments Hannah did not understand where God was. But she persevered and had Faith all along. Throughout the story we saw how God was Faithful and just to Hannah and she did receive her desire to have a son. And God restored her life and gave her beyond of what she could have imagined.

If you are struggling to trust God in this season of your life. I encourage you to surrender all your worries, fears, and anxieties to him because he cares for you. And remind yourself that God is in Control of your situation and that he is For you and with you.

I also encourage you to go back to your Bible and highlight the verses that speaks to you in this season of your life. Read the stories in the Bible where people like you and me went through the same things. These stories were put there on purpose by God to encourage us in our own battles. Be encouraged today!
